Creating a new e-mail account in Thunderbird 1.5:

This tutorial covers how to create a new e-mail account in Thunderbird 1.5. Just follow the steps below:

On the Toolbar, click Tools and select Account Settings from the menu as shown in Example 1.1 below:

The Account Settings window opens as shown in Example 1.2 below. This window is used to edit an existing account as well as create a new one.

  • Click the Add Account button.

Account Wizard

The Account Wizard > New Account Setup screen launches as shown in Example 1.3 below.

  • Select Email account.
  • Click Next to continue.

The Account Wizard > Identity screen is displayed as shown in Example 1.4 below.

  • Fill in the fields as follows:
  • Identity Information:
    Your Name = Enter your name.
    E-mail Address = Enter the e-mail address for this account.
  • Click Next to continue.

The Account Wizard > Server Information screen appears as shown in Example 1.5 below.

  • Fill in the fields as follows:
  • Server Information:
    Select the type of incoming server you are using. = This should be set to POP.
    Incoming Server = pop3.airmail.net.
  • Click Next to continue.

The Account Wizard > User Names screen is displayed as shown in Example 1.6 below.

  • Fill in the fields as follows:
  • User Names:
    Incoming User Name = Enter your full e-mail address.
  • Click Next to continue.

The Account Wizard > Account Name screen is displayed as shown in Example 1.7 below.

  • Fill in the fields as follows:
  • Account Name:
    Account Name = Enter a name for the account. It can be anything you wish. Make it distinctive to help distinguish it from any other accounts you may create.
  • Click Next to continue.

Wizard Completion

Review the information you entered. Click Back to change any errors.

  • Click Finish to complete the wizard and return to the Account Settings window.

Enabling SMTP Authentication

SMTP authentication is required to send e-mail. Without this enabled, you cannot send e-mail. You'll probably see error '550'. SMTP authentication helps deter would-be spammers from spamming you. Refer to Example 1.9 below to get started.

  • In the Account Settings window, highlight Outgoing Server (SMTP).
  • To the right, highlight the new account and click the Edit button.

SMTP Server

The SMTP Server window opens as shown in Example 1.10 below.

  • Fill in the fields as follows:
    Server Name = smtp.airmail.net
    Port = 25 (default)
    Check the box Use name and password.
    User Name = Enter your full e-mail address.
    Use secure connection = No (default)
  • Thunderbird will ask you for your password the first time you attempt to send e-mail. You can choose to save your password at that time.
  • Click the OK button to close this window and return to the Account Settings window.
